Who we are
Melamend Mama was born from my deep commitment to Black birthing people—their stories, bodies, and power. The name itself is a love letter:
"Mela" speaks to melanin, memory, and medicine.
"Mend" honors the healing—of systems, of bodies, of generations. Together, Melamend means to tenderly restore what was always worthy.
At Melamend Mama, we believe birth is sacred, revolutionary, and deeply connected to our ancestors. I’m Charisma, a full-spectrum doula, licensed therapist, and advocate for Black birthing health. Rooted in ancestral wisdom, reproductive justice, and cultural safety—ensuring Black birthing individuals have the care, knowledge, and support they deserve. As a licensed therapist and full-spectrum doula, I created this practice to walk alongside you through the many phases of reproductive care—birth, postpartum, loss, and beyond. Melamend Mama is a space where your fullness is welcome. Where your joy, grief, and everything in between are held with reverence.
Our passion lies in serving Black birthing individuals, addressing the health disparities and systemic challenges that have impacted our communities for generations. By centering Black voices and experiences, we create spaces of healing, liberation, and empowerment.
Guided by the wisdom of those who came before us, I honor birth as an ancestral rite, a passage of strength and healing. I provide culturally affirming, holistic support that centers Black families, integrating traditional practices, emotional well-being, and body autonomy. Whether navigating pregnancy, birth, postpartum, or loss, my mission is to hold space for your journey with care, dignity, and liberation. At Melamend Mama’s, everyone who values this approach is invited to join in this transformative work.
Melamend Mama isn’t just a service—it’s a movement toward reclaiming our birthright to safe, empowered, and joyful birthing experiences. Together, we heal, thrive, and uplift future generations.
